Closet space...

Welcome back, I started writing an IG caption today that was too lengthy so I moved it to a blog post. This time focusing a bit more on consumption and fashion choices. I feel like I have parted with a lot of my wardrobe lately - some things that I loved but only wore a handful of times, some that were pretty on a hanger but not on me, and some I should have just resold when thrifted. Live and learn I guess. (Shameless plug to check the poshmark closet, most items there were probably purchased for me to wear but I decided to part with them).

When cleaning out my closet for the 900th time recently I kept things that I loved that I knew I would get the most use out of. In doing so the bag, shoes and sweater in this photo nearly got chopped but I had a change of heart and pulled them back out. Here’s why...

The sweater - I love black, it’s probably the NJ in me but a full black outfit warms my soul like no other (not in this photo but you get my drift). This sweater nearly got the chop because I already have a cashmere turtleneck and 2 ribbed turtleneck T-shirts which are all great for layering and tucking in. But this piece is effortless, chunky and a great weight. I dislike that it’s half acrylic but it is what it is when you thrift mall brands. The oversized, high turtleneck really does it for me in terms of options. I love that I can tuck my hair in.

The bag.. bucket is not usually my thing, I hate having giant garbage dump at the bottom of my handbag, and as such I have returned to smaller cross body bags. But this is vintage Fendi and I knew if I parted with it, I would eventually kick myself for it. So it stays. It’s not perfect - the strap will eventually need to be replaced but the leather is in great condition and the inside isn’t sticky. I love that it's still trendy with the mock croc printed leather, but classic in its shape and materials. It's really a great bag.

The clogs (duh!)... brown isn’t usually my thing in shoes or accessories, tans and camels are good tones for me. But I love the fringe on these and the chunkier heel height. The nail heads and buckle are a great touch too. After selling my Hasbeens T Straps in natural leather these were what replaced them, on a whim to be honest. I constantly put them on and take them off but I love the way they fit with socks! And black too if I am being honest. #clogsandsocks

Moral of the story here is be conscious of what you have! I love excess but excess isn’t good for me when it comes to my closet. I go thru these cycles sometimes where I buy a lot, hoard it and then fianlly part with it all. Not good for my mental health or wallet but it’s something I look forward to correcting with intention in 2021. I would like to work on my goal setting for my wardrobe and planning better purchases. Having a running thrift list helps, but not everything can be thrifted. More on this another time.

What have you cleaned out lately?

Until next time,

Jessika.
